Malene Bailey

Malene Meadows Bailey, age 90, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Autumn Care of Marion with her loving family members by her side. Malene, a resident of Old Fort, was born in Buncombe County, North Carolina on August 13, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Hardy “Pop” and Laura “Mom” Cox Meadows. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Bailey (1999); granddaughter, Melissa Farmer; one great granddaughter, Layla Hettenschuller; and eleven brothers and sisters.

A member of New Hope Baptist Church in Old Fort, Malene was known for making and selling milk, buttermilk and butter, but most of all, the love she had for her family. 

Those left to cherish her precious memories are her seven children, Brenda Shoenfelt, Bill Bailey (Agnes), Nancy Smart, Pamela Bailey, Anita Buchanan (Jimmy), Doug “Bud” Bailey (Carolyn) and Robin Inman (Richard); thirteen grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Pastor Jimmy Buchanan officiating.  Interment will follow at Salem Community Cemetery in Old Fort. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. 

Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.  Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mrs. Bailey’s memory are asked to consider a charity of one’s choice.
