Mable Devinney

Mable Hawkins Devinney, age 86, of the Pleasant Gardens Community, departed to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 01, 2019 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills Inpatient Unit in Forest City.  A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born on June 18, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Delon and Fannie Wilkerson Hawkins. 

A loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Mable enjoyed staying busy.  Mable’s father, Delon, opened Hawkins Lumber Company.  Following his passing, Delon left the business to his son, John and Mable, where they both continued the lumber company in Pleasant Gardens.  A member of Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church, as a child, her home church was Garden Creek Baptist Church.  Mable loved her family life, especially her two children and the Lord. 

Left to cherish her precious memories are loving husband of 65 years, Nicholas “Nick” Devinney; one son, Alan Devinney (Ann); one daughter, Celia Devinney Kaylor (Ron); and one brother, John Hawkins.  She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Nicole Ruppe (Andrew), Wesley Kaylor, Iris Condrey (Bill) and Cindy Dymond (Matt); numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 03, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church with Pastor John Setchfield and Pastor Ethan Hester officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
