Mabel Creson Parker, 84, of Union Mills, North Carolina, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.
She was born in McDowell County on January 30, 1937 to the late Chester Wayne Creson and Rosie Mae Harris Creson.
Mabel was the valedictorian of her high school class and then earned credits from a Church of God Bible College. Mabel was a faithful caregiver for many years to her husband, Warren “Lodge” Parker. Together, they spent many hours volunteering at the VA Medical Center.
Mabel was a member of Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church. She was an accomplished piano player. She taught lessons and played for countless weddings and funerals. She was also involved with the Shingle Hollow Community Center where she organized regular events for singing, prayer, and fellowship. She was a great cook and canned nearly anything. She was mostly proud of her flowers and her family.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she is preceded in death by two brothers, Paul B. Creson and Wayne “Cresie” Creson; and two sisters, Lucy Metcalf and Jeanette Lowman.
She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Creson Lowman (Howard) and Carolyn Creson Lane (Robert); a sister-in-law, Jackie Creson Pritchard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Shingle Hollow Congregational Holiness Church at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Gilkey Church of God Cemetery.
The family requests that COVID precautions be followed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials donations may be directed to the Gideon's International.
