Lyle David Malzahn, age 74, of Marion, North Carolina and formally of Bolingbrook, Illinois passed away on the evening of Friday, February 16, 2018 at his residence. The son of the late Lester and Lydia Weinrich Malzahn, he was born in Oak Park, Illinois on November 18, 1943.
An avid listener of bluegrass music, Lyle enjoyed playing the banjo and spending time with his family and friends. A graduate of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, he received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and was employed by Westinghouse Electric and Eaton Corporation as a field service engineer until his retirement in 2003. He was also a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Marion.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Christine Franke Malzahn of the home; one son, Scott Malzahn (Kristen) of Durham; one granddaughter, Ella Caroline Malzahn; one sister, Jeannie Frank Beyer (John) of Long Beach, California; one brother, Paul Malzahn (Janet) of Lincoln, Nebraska; a number of nieces and nephews and also his home nurse, Jane Greene.
A celebration to honor the life of Lyle will be held on Saturday February 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Marion with Deacon Fred Kohls officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
