Lydia Jane Burgess

March 20, 1915 — March 27, 2018

 

Lydia Jane Guinn Burgess, 103, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at McDowell Hospital, following a period of declining health.

 

Mrs. Burgess was born on March 20, 1915 in Sullivan County, Tennessee to the late George Washington Guinn and Nancy Jane Jennings Guinn. She was retired after 30 years with Naval Air Station, Alameda, California before moving to McDowell County in 1975. She was one of the original Rosie Riveters. She was a member of the DAR for many years, was a golfer all of her life, and loved traveling with her husband before his death, especially to Charleston, South Carolina. Lydia was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Marion.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry R. “Hank” Burgess; and her brothers and sisters.

 

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Marion, with Rev. Jacob L. Douylliez officiating. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Bristol, Tennessee.

 

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., prior to the service, at First Presbyterian Church of Marion.
