Our beloved Lula Arvis Swepson transitioned from this life into the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior on Friday July 22, 2022, at Grace Hospital in Morganton, North Carolina. She was born September 3,1934, in Old Fort, North Carolina to the late Luther and Lucy Logan. She was the eleventh of nineteen children. She graduated from Hudgins High School in Marion, North Carolina. Later she married Cecil Swepson and through that union 5 sons were born. She was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a great great grandmother.
She was a faithful member of the Mt. Zion AME Zion Church of Marion, North Carolina where she served as a deaconess, a Class Leader, on the steward board, and President of the hospitality committee. She enjoyed reading, bowling, word searches and had an avid passion for decorating.
She worked at Marion Manufacturing Co. in Marion, North Carolina for many years and retired from The Western Carolina Center in Morganton, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by, her husband Cecil Swepson Sr., five sons; Todd Swepson, Cecil Swepson, Jr., Anthony Swepson, Jeffrey Swepson, and Carl Bradford Swepson; one granddaughter; Haleigh Alyssia Swepson, four Sisters; Ruby Boyce, Florine Hemphill, Lillie Mae Matthews and Louise Edmonds, seven brothers; Joe Edward Logan, James C. Logan, Luther Logan, Jr., Charlie Alphonzo Logan, Robert Logan, Harold Logan and Louie Logan.
Left to cherish her fond memories are two stepdaughters; Gloria Boyce (Larry) of Marion, North Carolina Gail Williams of Marion, North Carolina, one daughter-in-law; Yola Swepson of Nebo, North Carolina, one sister; Coretha Logan Lytle of Old Fort, North Carolina, five sisters-n-law, seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, five great- great grandchildren and a host of nieces, and nephews.
The service for Ms. Swepson will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service, at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. Mary H. Scott, pastor of Mt. Zion AME Zion Church officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorials be made to Mt. Zion AME Zion Church, 75 Zion Rd., Marion, NC 28752.
