On the evening of Friday, December 21, 2018, Lucille Wilkerson Searcy, age 89, went home to be with the Lord at Mission Hospital-Asheville. A native of McDowell County, Lucille was born on March 21, 1929 to the late John and Nancy Mae Robbins Wilkerson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Wilkerson; one son, Gerald Searcy, who passed away on February 12, 2015, and her husband, Fred Searcy who passed away on September 21, 2011 after sixty-three years of marriage.
Lucille was a wonderful example of what a Godly wife, mother, sister and grandmother should be. She loved her family, her church and was an encourager. She was a faithful member of Montford Cove Baptist Church for over eighty years where she had served as Children’s Sunday School teacher, choir member and served as church clerk for about fifty years. She and her husband were 4-H leaders for many years. She was a wonderful cook and loved to feed her family. She loved to tell stories about her past and growing up during the depression. Her favorite story was about getting snowbound at Sugar Hill School. Lucille also worked as school cafeteria manager at Glenwood High School for seven years and McDowell High for twenty years.
Left to cherish her memories are one daughter, Judy Searcy of Montford Cove; two sisters, Agnes Wilkerson of Montford Cove and Doris Flynn (Troy) of Marion; and two grandchildren, Deeana Ray (Jason) and Travis Searcy (Beth). Also surviving Lucille are three great-grandchildren, Jayde Ray, Deegan Ray and Easton Searcy all of Montford Cove, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate Lucille’s life will take place Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Montford Cove Baptist Church with Reverend Shawn Berryhill and Reverend Marvin Green officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place following the service at Montford Cove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Flowers are accepted and appreciated, but those wishing to make a donation in Lucille’s memory are asked to consider, Montford Cove Baptist Church, 4920 Cove Road, Union Mills, North Carolina 28167.
