September 16, 1926 — March 30, 2020

Lucille Lytle Luckey, age 93, formally of Old Fort, North Carolina, made the wonderful cross over into Heaven on the morning of Monday, March 30, 2020 at Mountain Ridge Health & Rehabilitation in Black Mountain, North Carolina.  Born in McDowell County on September 16, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Ethel Lytle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Luckey; and one son, Charles Eugene Luckey, Jr.

A member of Catawba View Baptist Church in Old Fort, Lucille served on the usher board and the kitchen committee.  She was a graduate of Step School in Old Fort.  Having had a heart for children, she had worked in the kitchen of Old Fort Elementary School and proudly volunteered as a foster grandparent at Pleasant Gardens Baptist Church.

She is survived by her four children, Vivian Freeman, Jerome Luckey, Minnie Sullivan and Gary Luckey; a brother, Dan; and a sister, Brenda.  Lucille also is survived by her five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and last but not least, all of her nieces and nephews.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the family will have a private gathering at a later date.  Lucille will be interred next to her late husband, Charles, at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
