Old Fort, North Carolina

Linda Lou Queen, 79, of Old Fort, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, July 20th, 2024 with her loving family by her side.

She was born in McDowell County on January 21, 1945. Linda was the beloved daughter of William Ben Sowers and Edith Laughter Sowers. She grew up alongside her late siblings Bobby, Don, and Becky.

Linda was married to Allen Queen, and together they shared many years of love and companionship. Throughout her life, Linda dedicated herself to serving others. She worked in the healthcare profession as a nursing assistant touching the lives of many in her community.

Linda’s greatest joy came from her role as a Nana. She lovingly took care of her granddaughters, Megan and Katelan, and played an integral part in their upbringing. She was their confidante, their cheerleader, and their safe haven. Linda's bond with her granddaughters was a testament to her nurturing spirit and unwavering devotion.

One of Linda's most cherished moments was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play in their backyard pool. She loved creating a joyful atmosphere filled with laughter and music, often playing Elton John or the Bee Gees from her stereo. Linda had a zest for life, finding excitement in the thrill of the casino during her trips to Las Vegas. She also had a lifelong love for the ocean and enjoyed many golfing trips with friends.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Allen Queen of Old Fort, NC; her daughter Paige and son-in-law David Ziegler of Marion, NC; her grandchildren, Megan (Alan) Barrier of Marion, NC, and Katelan (Scot) Worley of Canton, NC; and her great-grandchildren, Ruby and Rhilee Barrier of Marion, NC, and Carter, Bryce, Foster, and Finley Worley of Canton, NC. Linda's family will continue to honor her memory with love and gratitude.

A private celebration of Linda's life will be held to commemorate her legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital www.stjude.org or The Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (CAA) Research Program www.giving.massgeneral.org, in honor of Linda's compassionate spirit.
