Lillie Katherine “Kitty” Hughes, age 76, of Marion, North Carolina passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018 at Autumn Care of Marion. A native of McDowell County, Kitty was born on November 29, 1942 to the late Willie B. Taylor and Gertrude Austin Hughes.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joe Bishop Hughes; two sons, Richard Allen Hughes and Kenneth Lee Hughes; two sisters, Gloria Jennings and Mary Carson and one brother, Freddie Taylor.
Kitty was a member of Yancy Street Baptist Church. She was a volunteer with the McDowell County Senior Center for many years. She enjoyed gardening and antique collecting, but most of all she loved her family.
She is survived by one son, David Hughes (Jackie) of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters, Ann Lonon of Morganton and Joan Patrick of Marion and one brother, Donald “Don” Taylor of Sylva. Also surviving Kitty is a granddaughter, Cassie Thomas (Wes) of Cary, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. A service to celebrate Kitty’s life will take place on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Yancey Street Baptist Church with Reverend Dean Owenby officiating. Interment will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
