Leroy "Peabody" Hamilton

Leroy “Peabody” Hamilton, age 81, of Morganton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 01, 2019 at Carolinas HealthCare System-Blue Ridge in Morganton, North Carolina.  A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born on September 05, 1938, he was the son of the late Ralph Hamilton, Sr. and Agnes Rutherford Hamilton. 

Leroy, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by one sister, Velma H. Morris. 

A long-time resident of McAlpine Adult Care in Morganton where he was well loved, Leroy enjoyed dancing, playing solitaire, fishing and gardening.  Leroy will be truly missed by his family, McAlpine Adult Care family and many friends. 

Left to cherish his memories are two sons, Benji Rutherford and Casey Rutherford; one sister, Lynell H. Rutherford; and one brother, Ralph Hamilton, Jr.  Leroy is also survived by twelve grandchildren, MaryAnn Rutherford, Benji Rutherford, Jr., Jacy Rutherford, Joe Rutherford, Casey Rutherford, Jr., Dexter Andrews, Cedric Rutherford, Kellen Rutherford, Sammy Branch, Eddie Branch, Patrick Brown and Katie Brown; two great grandchildren, Jaylen Brown and Aria Rose Kennedy; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Hamilton will be held on Saturday December 7, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Johns A.M.E. Church in Nebo.
