Leona Anthony Owensby

Leona Anthony Owensby, 76, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.

She was born in Swain County on May 16, 1947 to the late William Marion Anthony and Ada McClure Anthony.

Leona was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother who took great pride in caring for others. She cared for her mother as well as her brother with special needs for a number of years. Most of all, Leona was a faithful Christian lady who served God wholeheartedly.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Dean Owensby; a brother, Thad Anthony; and her sister, Joann Effler.

She is survived by a brother, Warren Anthony; a special nephew who she raised as a son, Dwayne Effler; a stepson, Darrin Owensby; and a special niece, Misty Anthony.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Larry Gentry officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
