Leona Wilson Fender was a beloved wife, mother, and a longtime resident of Nebo. She passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter Revonda Ramseur and son-in-law Robert on the morning of October 26, 2024 at Carolina Caring- Sherrills Ford Hospice House. Leona was born June 2, 1938 in McDowell County to the late Mack Wilson, II and Martha Ellen Pritchard Wilson.
Leona was a devoted and loving wife to Louis Odean Fender for 69 years. Odean preceded her in death by three days. She was the proud wife of the last living deacon of Hillcrest Free Will Baptist Church at the time of his death. They both were charter members. Both are now able to continue their eternal love together and still bound as one.
Singing was always a real passion of hers. She always sang in the church choir. As a young girl, Leona, Imogene, and their mother sang weekly on the local radio station together. Then later as an adult she sang with the Joyful Sounds Trio/Quartet.
Leona is survived by her daughter Revonda Fender Ramseur (Robert) of Nebo. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when Revonda needed her. She was there with wisdom, support, and love in abundance. She was cherished by her community and truly loved by her family and friends. Leona leaves behind a legacy of kindness, courage, and strength.
Leona Fender was a business owner also. She was the owner and operator of The Country Haircare Salon for 30 years and loved working with the public.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Belle Price (Gene) and Imogene Johnson (Jimmy); and one brother, Mack Wilson, Jr. (Nina- who survives); and a nephew, Scott Wilson.
Mrs. Fender is also survived by several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Lawing officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Free Will Baptist Church where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
The family suggests those who wish to honor Mrs. Fender’s memory to do so by sending contributions to Carolina Caring- Sherrills Ford Hospice House.
