Early Sunday morning, November 07, 2021, Larry Gordon Roberts, Sr., age 73, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away at the Charles George VA Medical Center.
He was born in Buncombe County on December 23, 1947 to the late Donald James Roberts and Lola Maude Ray Roberts.
Larry was raised on a farm and had a special place in his heart for cattle and horses. For a time, he showed Tennessee walking horses. He was a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He later served two years in the National Guard. He liked to collect knives and guns. Known as a joker, Larry loved cutting up. Though he was stubborn, he had a big heart and would help anyone in need. He would often give of his means to a charity or a family who needed assistance. His family was important to him, and family gatherings did his heart good.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jean Roberts; and five siblings, Virgil Brendle, Willie Gene Roberts, Aileen Peterson, Ruby Ayers, and Dexter Roberts.
He is survived by his four children, Michelle Hanna (Merle), Melissa Smith (Roger Price), Larry Gordon Roberts, Jr. (Shana Hogan), and Angie Waycaster (Mike); eleven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Bass; and four special fur babies.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Jeff Price and Merle Hanna officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Larry’s continued support, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
