Larry Earl Hargett, age 80, of Marion, North Carolina, walked into glory after a courageous battle with cancer at his residence surrounded by those who love him on Sunday, December 13, 2020.
The son of the late Abner Jefferson and Mattie Hargett, he was born in Trenton, NC on July 26, 1940.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise Hamilton and Dorothy Ellen Mackneer, and one son in law, Jeff Lee.
Larry was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he served as an elder. During his time serving the Lord, he worked with genealogy and for over 60 years Larry helped thousands of families trace their heritage with many lines back to Adam and Eve.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Larry worked as a truck driver until his retirement. He spent his time working in his garden and yard. A wood crafter, he made many crafts that he sold at Marion’s Tailgate Market. Of all things Larry enjoyed, spending time with his family brought him the greatest joy especially his grandchildren and great-grandbabies.
Left to continue his legacy are his wife of 26 years Betty Hargett, eight children, Teresa Highsmith (Kenny), Tina Lee, Talena Hargett, Todd Hargett, Tommy Hargett, Scott Hargett, Roger Edwards (Renee), Terry Miller (Tony); 21 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Murphy's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Carepartners Hospice and Palliative Care of Marion for taking extraordinary care of Larry. A very special thank you to his amazing nurses Nick Favorite and Darrin Helton along with CNA Kaitlyn Gortney for their endless kindness and comfort they provided for our Larry and the entire family.
