Larry Kenneth "Slick" Freeman

Larry Kenneth “Slick” Freeman, 81, of Marion went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, October 15, 2021 after an extended illness. Born on August 20, 1940 in Long Island, New York, he was the son of the late Roy Freeman and Evelyn Hill Lakey. In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Irma Hensley Freeman, and son, Gregory Kenneth Freeman.

Larry proudly served in the United States Navy and is a retiree of the North Carolina Prison System. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and loved to be outside. He coached youth baseball for Pleasant Gardens Elementary for many years and left a lasting legacy to all who knew him. Larry loved his family more than anything and was proud of each of them.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Joey, and his wife Alice of Marion; his daughter, Jacquie Grady, and her husband Bryan of Morganton; his son, Kenneth of Marion; and Melody Freeman of Marion. He left behind five grandchildren, Ashley Kerlee, and husband Brandon of Old Fort; Jordan Smallwood, and husband, Bryan of Villa Rica, Georgia; Aaron Freeman and fiancé, Autumn Tate of Nebo; Nicholas and Ethan Freeman of Marion; and a great grandson, Konnor Kerlee. He also had a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, especially Becky Hensley Greer of Morganton.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Beam Funeral Home with the Dr. Reverend Eddy Bunton officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Attn: Processing Center, PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394.
