Larry Dennis Butler, age 68 of Marion, N.C., went to be with his Lord on Monday, October 4th, 2021 after a hard, courageous battle with Covid.
Growing up in a military family and also being a member of the United States Air Force, Larry has lived all over the U.S. - mostly residing in Melbourne, FL, where he always hoped to return - in addition to living in France during his first few years of life. Moving around all his life has given him the opportunity to make friends everywhere he has lived. His larger than life personality has shined just as much as his infectious smile. His love for corvettes, vintage trucks, and motorcycles have always reflected his happy-go-lucky, carefree, fun view on life. It was very rare not to see him out and about at his car lot or cruising the lake, always ready to socialize! Through all of these experiences, Larry has made so many wonderful, supportive, loving friends. He was very involved in his church - Greenlee Baptist - and raised his girls to know and love God and understand that life should be lived to the fullest. He worked for 39 years as a draftsman at Baxter Healthcare and made some of his best lifelong buddies there. Larry never met a stranger; if you met him, you were his friend. His heart was made of gold! He was the absolute biggest hero to his girls, and they will love him and miss him until eternity. His wife was his sweetheart and the love of his life, and through their love, they both provided an example of God’s love to their family and to others. This world is going to miss an amazing man; his legacy will carry on forever!
Preceding Larry in death are his parents, Loyd and Arbulus Butler of Melbourne, FL. Surviving are his loving soulmate of 41 years, Janie (Webb) Butler; his daughters who loved him more than life, Mandi Woody (Kyle Hood) of Marion and Ashley Butler (Jeremiah Gunter) of Marion; his granddaughter and “best sports-watching buddy”, Brooke Robinson; and his great-granddaughters who could always bring a big smile to his face, Ava and Brinley. Also surviving are his siblings Dianna (Rod) Strickland of Douglas, GA; Gary (Linda) Butler of Marion; Anita (Doug) Haga of Costa Rica; and Arnold “Arnie” Butler of Melbourne, FL. Larry also has a great number of nieces, nephews, many cousins whom he’s always been close with, especially Janice (Gilles) St. Gelais who were like siblings to him, one surviving uncle (June McCourry), and a plethora of friends everywhere he has been.
A receiving of friends will be at Greenlee Baptist Church on Saturday, October 9th from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. with the funeral to follow. A private burial with family and close friends will take place on Monday, October 11th at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cementary in Black Mountain, NC.
