On the morning of Saturday, June 29, 2024, Kenny Lee Street, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and other medical issues through the years but exemplified bravery and always had a smile and kind word for anyone he met. Kenny was the loving son of Walter Street and Daisy Maria Street, of Marion, North Carolina, who predeceased him. He was the younger brother to Roger Street who passed away in 1991.
The simplest things in life brought Kenny the most joy. Being with his wife, Nancy, was top of the list. They loved and cared for each other for over 50 years of marriage. They married in 1973 and were blessed with two children, Brian and Sarah. Kenny was a wonderful father traveling many hours supporting his children in sports and extracurricular activities and was so proud of the responsible adults they have become.
The apple of his eye was his grandchildren, Jesse, Allie, Zeb and Gage. He has followed them in all of their activities and been an inspiration to them by his physical presence in their lives and living a life that honored God. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren unconditionally.
Being outdoors and specifically hunting brought Kenny peace and solace. He spent countless hours hunting all kinds of game with his son and grandsons. He especially loved turkey hunting. In 2022, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by hunting in Florida and killing the Osceloa turkey which completed his quest of killing the Grand Slam. His family was with him and celebrated his victory.
Kenny retired from Duke Energy in 2016. He served as an Area Supervisor, traveling many long hours for the company. He was a highly respected and trusted employee and made friends that continued long after his retirement.
When asked for his greatest gift in life, Kenny was quick to answer, “accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior.” That single decision filtered into every aspect of his life and governed his path from the age of 13. As Christians, his family and friends are grateful and take refuge in the hope they will see him again.
Left to treasure their life together is Kenny’s wife, Nancy Hollifield Street, his son, Brian Street, and wife, Melissa, daughter, Sarah Street Proctor, and husband, Rhett, all of Marion, North Carolina; grandchildren, Jesse Street, Allie Proctor, Zeb Street, and Gage Proctor. Many friends and family will miss him as well and are honored to have known Kenny.
