Kenneth Ray Ward, 64, of Marion, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
A native of McDowell County, Ken was born May 15, 1960 to the late Von Ray Ward and Pansy Gail Hollifield Ward.
For 24 years, Ken worked for Go-Forth Pest Control, where he became well known in the community. His hands could fix anything, and he was always busy building or repairing something, embodying the spirit of a true craftsman. Ken also served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, instilling in him a deep sense of duty and commitment that he carried into all facets of his life.
A wonderful husband and father, Ken was an extraordinary figure in the lives of those who knew him. He possessed a generous heart, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. His warmth and selflessness left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to cross his path.
As a proud Poppy to his beloved "Luka Bear," Ken cherished the moments spent with his grandson. He delighted in taking trips to Dollywood, going to see trains, and creating unforgettable memories that will live on in the hearts of his family. He was also a devoted husband, father, and brother. Ken’s appreciation for life extended beyond his family; he found immense joy in the great outdoors, especially in the beauty of the mountains and hiking.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shannon Parkins Ward; his daughter, Autumn Helms (Jared); grandson, Luka Helms; two brothers, Mike Ward (Pam) and Mark Ward (Jennifer); a number of nephews; and a special friend, Daniel Rhodes.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. A private graveside service will be held at McDowell Memorial Park.
