Ken Laney, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at his residence in Marion with his loving family at his side. Born in Bryson City, North Carolina on February 28, 1938, he was the son of the late Hattie Lee Laney.
A self-employed electrician, and self-made and fiercely independent man, he loved spending time with his family. Ken would faithfully listen to Pastor Arnold Murray with the Shepherd’s Chapel, a Christian church and broadcasting facility out of Arkansas. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 54 years, Jane Laney of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Bristol and her husband, Ben of Morganton; two sons, Jeremy Laney and his wife, Alida of Monterey, California; and Lyle Laney of Asheville. He was also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In keeping with Ken’s wishes, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mr. Laney’s memory are asked to consider, CarePartners Hospice & Palliative Care-McDowell, 68 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, North Carolina or by visiting www.carepartnersfoundation.org.
