Kaye Vivian Fender McMahan, 79, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away Friday, August 05, 2022 at Rose Hill Retirement Community.
A native of McDowell County, she was born December 21, 1942 to the late Rev. Clyde Fender and Lola Bailey Fender. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lee McMahan; and son, Jeffrey Scott McMahan.
Kaye was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church. For 25 years, she worked as a teacher’s assistant at Nebo Elementary. She also worked for 15 years at Robinson Clothing. She was the oldest of her sisters and was known to take care of her family members. Kaye was also a great cook who received joy by helping her neighbors and sharing food with them.
She is survived by her sisters, Veredah Smith and Marlie Loftis (Harry); nephews, Mitch Loftis and Jonathan Lawing; nieces, Crystal Lawing (Mark), and Jillian, Bristol, and Joanie Casey; her fiancé, Leon Nix; his children, Tim Nix and Cynthia Grindstaff; and her children, Callie and Hayden Grindstaff.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Revs. Mark Lawing and Alan Sailors and family friend, Marty Revis officiating. The burial will be private at Liberty Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. No formal visitation will be held.
The family extends a special thanks to her primary caregivers, Leon Nix, Marlie Loftis, and the staff of Rose Hill as well as Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
