Judy Belinda Helms Petty

Judy Belinda Helms Petty, 72, of Marion, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center.

She was born in McDowell County on May 25, 1952. Judy honorably served for nearly thirteen years in the United States Army where she reached the rank of Sergeant. Judy continued her career of service following her separation from the Army by later working for NORAD and as a military base inspector. Judy enjoyed volunteering as well as shopping. She looked forward to times out to eat with family and friends. She also loved working with flowers. 

Judy is preceded in death by her father, Claude A. Helms; stepmother, Jerolene Helms; sister, Angela Helms; and two brothers, Terry Helms and Lynn Helms.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnietta Knott; sister, Debbie Burgin (Ronnie); sister-in-law, Sandra Helms, who was her rock; beloved aunt, Dixie Helms Davis; dear friends, Alice Farley, Richard Anderson, and Oscar Creech; caregiver, Janet Mabe; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor Donald Justice, Preacher Bill Wilson, and Chaplain Richard Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
