Juanita "Nita" Alice Layton

December 27, 1942 — March 7, 2021

We regretfully announce the passing of Juanita ‘Nita’ Alice (Meyer) Layton of Black Mountain, North Carolina on March 7, 2021 at Solace Hospice Center in Asheville.

Nita was born on Dec. 27, 1942 in Clearwater, Kansas to Joe and Katherine Meyer. She moved to Wichita, KS where she graduated from Vernon’s Kansas School of Cosmetology, married Ed Layton in 1962, a city slicker from Kentucky, and they were blessed with three wonderful children. Nita worked at A Touch of Class, Great Hair Affair, & Layton Graphics. She owned Creative Solutions. An intelligent businesswoman, great beautician, and a fantastic cook. She still had our first microwave oven from 1976. She was the ‘go-to’ girl if you wanted a logo on something for advertising. She would give out vast amounts of ‘samples' of her designs to everyone.

She moved to Black Mountain, NC in 1996 and fell in love with the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop. She had a great sense of humor. Her laugh and smile were second to none. She gave her heart and soul to a life filled with love enriched by family and friends. She was a stunning lady and people were attracted to her by her love for life.

Our family was fortunate to have her as the matriarch of what she kindly referred to us as ‘Nita’s Kids.’ She had the sweetest spirit, a brave and adventurous outlook on life and was a warm and supporting person who knew how to appreciate life’s beauty.  Her spirit was as lovely as she was, even near the end. Heaven will be a brighter place with her there.

Nita was predeceased by Webster, her cat. The ‘Man’ of her life. Her parents Joe & Catherine Meyer, sister Virginia (Meyer) Keiter, niece Renee (Keiter) Rose, great granddaughter Shyenne Posch, & former spouse Ed Layton. She is survived by her brother, Leroy Meyer of Derby, Ks. Her three children; Jude Layton, Michael Layton (spouse Shelley Kay Layton), & Kimberlee Clark (spouse W.G. Clark). 10 grandchildren – Jude – Theresa Lopez, Anton (Tony) Posch III, Victor Posch, & Amy Jo Goings; Michael – Nathan Parks, Seth Layton, & Skylar Layton; Kimberlee – Lesley Clark & Lynn Clark. 10 great grandchildren. Jude – Alexandra, Sydney, Chelsea, Emma, Joeie, & Patience Lopez; Cecelia, Serenity Posch; Alice Gonzales. Michael – Landon Hopkins.

A date for a memorial service to celebrate Nita will be determined and posted at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to John F Keever Jr. Solace Center, 21 Belvedere Road in Asheville, NC  28803.
