Joyce Parker

Joyce Wilkerson Parker, age 91, loving mother and grandmother, of the Montford Cove community, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at her residence with her family by her side.  Born in Rutherford County, North Carolina on September 18, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Molly Frady Wilkerson. 

Joyce took great joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She had worked in the cafeteria at, what was then, Sugar Hill Elementary; and after 17 years, retired from Marion Elementary School Cafeteria.  Joyce was a lifelong active member of Montford Cove Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hicks Parker.

She is survived by one son, David Parker (Jo Ann); one daughter, Peggy Parker Freeman; four grandchildren, Chris Parker (Sandy Sitton), Ginger Sisk (Perry), Kendall Knowles (Foster) and Cameron Freeman (Krystal); and five great grandchildren, Quinton Ledford, Keaton Ledford, Addison Parker, Eliza Freeman and Beckett Knowles.  She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Montford Cove Baptist Church with Revs. Jerry Campbell and Keith Jamison officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
