Joseph Mays Waldrop

Marion, NC

Joseph Mays Waldrop, 79, of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. He was born in Transylvania County on February 13, 1943 to the late Mays Waldrop and Allie Whitmire Waldrop.

Joe was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Brevard High School and later attended Western Piedmont Community College where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Joe was a proud veteran of both the US Army and the US Air Force Reserve. He retired from the NC Highway Patrol following thirty years of service. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a brother, Acie Waldrop.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Jenkins Waldrop; a son, C. Kevin Waldrop (Karen); a sister, Edna Holden; four grandchildren, Caine Waldrop, Ryan Waldrop (Angel), Jacob Waldrop and Dakota Williams (Olivia) along with three great grandchildren, Ellie Carney, Malachai Craig and Nova Jo Waldrop.

A public gathering of family and friends will be held in the fellowship hall at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, 109 Chapel Hill Church Loop, Marion, NC 28752, on Monday, December 19, 2022 from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
