Joseph Dan Rector

Joseph Dan Rector, age 73, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away on the morning of Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina.  The son of the late Barney and Glennie Rector, he was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on January 06, 1946. 

He was preceded in death by, in addition to his parents, one son, Joey Rector (January 08, 2016); two brothers, Claude Rector and Fred Rector; and two sisters, Ruby Proctor and Joseph’s twin sister, Judy Ann Woody. 

An avid golfer, Joseph was a member of Grassy Creek Golf & Country Club and Marion Lake Club.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 56 in Marion; and up until his health began to decline, he loved to go bowling.  A veteran of the United States Army, Joseph received two purple hearts while serving during Vietnam War. 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Proctor Rector; one daughter, Leisa Morgan (Keith); and one son, Brian Rector (Kelley); one sister, Katherine Parker; six grandchildren, Justin Rector, Elizabeth Morgan, Jacob Morgan, Tyler Rector, Danielle Rector and Addison Rector; and four great grandchildren, Atiana, Jaycee, Abigail and Daniel.  Joseph is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews; special friends, Gary Gragg, Paul Baker, Ken Hollifield and Troy Elliott; and his golf and bowling families. 

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Brother Paul Baker officiating.  Interment will follow at Rector Family Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
