Joni Gainey Swift

Joni Gainey Swift, 39, of Mt. City, TN, entered into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 21, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer.

Joni was born in Marion, NC to Olin and Sandra Gainey on June 11, 1984. A long time resident of Marion, she is remembered for the love and care she provided to others as she worked as a CNA at Autumn Care and McDowell Hospital for 20 years. Joni met the love of her life Bobby Swift and was married in September of 2022. They were the perfect match and loved each other. She became a “Bonus Mom” to her step-son Stephen who referred to Joni as “His Joni”. Joni was an animal lover, treating each furry friend like the valuable family member they were. She will be remembered as being kind, caring, funny and a hard worker by all those who knew her and for touching the lives of so many. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.

Joni was preceded in death by her grandparents Hugh and Ruby Guffey and Olin (Sr.) and June Gainey, all of Old Fort.

She is survived by her husband Bobby Swift and step-son Stephen Swift of Mt. City, TN, parents Olin and Sandra Gainey of Marion, brother Jason Gainey (Sarah), sister Jennifer Lawson (Robert), nephews and nieces Brayden, Jace and Avery, mother in-law Cindy Werst of Mt. City, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and special friends Samantha, Amanda, Judy, Kristy and Mandi who helped to care for her during her final days.

The family will receive friends at Old Fort First Baptist Church on Thursday, January 25 from 4:00-5:00 pm  with the Memorial Service  being held immediately after.
