John Gearld Stroud

Mr. John Gearld Stroud, age 83 of Rutherfordton North Carolina passed away on Thursday November 23, 2017 at Oak Grove Health Care Center. The son of the Late Oliver Troy Stroud and Barnard McKinney Stroud, he was born on May 17, 1934.

Mr. Stroud was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Drexel Heritage following forty years of dedicated service. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on older cars and he liked to travel. But most of all he loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather with a kind and generous heart.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Mildred Hall Stroud, second wife Hazel Freeman Stroud, two step-grandchildren, Emma Stamper and Gary Rose, one grandson, Troy Stroud, and one brother, Harry Stroud. Left to cherish his memory are three children; Faye Greene (Douglas), Scott Stroud (Karen), and Becky Lewis (Terry); two brothers, Oliver “Duck” Stroud, and Glenn Stroud, and one sister Margaret Wilson; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is a number of step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and his canine companion, Bow Wow.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday November 25, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Reverend Charles Hollifield officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service with military honors at Stroud Family Cemetery.
