John P. Kinney

On the morning of Friday, August 07, 2020, John P. Kinney, age 51, of Waynesville, North Carolina, passed away at his residence.  The son of William J. Kinney of Marion, North Carolina and the late Kathleen Mae Kinney.  John was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on March 28, 1969. 

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, William W. Kinney and Esther Jean and Neil and Bernice Shannon. 

John, known for his upbeat, positive spirit, was a kind and loyal son, brother, uncle and friend.  Always having a joke and making people laugh, he enjoyed playing chess, picking a guitar, sports, cooking and spending holidays with his family and spending quality time with his friends.  John worked in the construction industry and was proud of his contributions to several project throughout Western North Carolina.

He is survived by, in addition to his father, one sister, Mary Hampton (Mark); two nephews, Andrew Marsh and Nathan Marsh; many uncles, aunts and cousins; and a special and longtime loyal friend, Max Surrett. 

John will be laid to rest on January 5, 2021 at McDowell Memorial Park, 327 Memorial Park Road, Marion, NC, in a joint graveside service alongside our father, William J Kinney. The service is to begin at 2pm.
