John "Jack" Walter Walrath

August 4, 1937 — March 1, 2017

 

 

John “Jack” Walter Walrath, died peacefully on March 1, 2017 in the company of his friend and pastor Kathy Campbell.  He was born August 4, 1937, to John and Virginia Walrath in Rochester, New York. 

 

He graduated from Brighton High School and remained lifelong friends with Paul Krenzer and Lyman Hurlburt. After serving three years as a military officer in Germany, Jack became the owner and operator of four tavern restaurants from Sodus Point, New York, to Saint Croix USA.

 

He was an avid golfer and earned his Sea Captain’s certification.  Jack loved nature, especially birds, animals, and his pets and generously supported the Humane Society and wildlife organizations. He lived in various places in the mountains, he loved and enjoyed his many friends at Land Harbor and Linville Cove Apartments. A faithful member of Crossnore Presbyterian Church, he made sure there were always enough muffins and cookies for coffee hour.

 

Jack was predeceased by his parents and his only sibling, Patricia Walrath Wilcox. 

 

He is survived by special friend, Gloria Coffey; nieces, Debby Wilcox Mabry, Cindy Beiter, Linda Green, and Wendy Pospiech; and several grand nieces and nephews. 

 

A memorial service will be held at Crossnore Presbyterian Church in Crossnore on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
