John Mills Hensley, Sr.

John Mills Hensley, Sr., 81, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Mission Hospital McDowell.

A native of McDowell County, John was born March 24, 1941 to the late Charlie Mills Hensley and Margie Hollifield Hensley.

John formerly worked for Great Lakes Carbon. He enjoyed gardening and watching NASCAR. In his early years, he was an avid golfer. He loved spending time outdoors, especially with his family on their boat. He had many friends who he ate breakfast with often. More than anything, his grandchildren meant the world to him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Hensley; daughter, Crystal Porter; and two siblings, Kaye Hensley Styles and Charles Royce Hensley, Sr.

He is survived by his son, John Hensley, Jr. (Tish); four grandchildren, Blake Hensley, Cassidy Hensley, Cade Hensley, and Jeffrey Porter (Rebekah); two sisters, Ann Powell (Freddie) and Faye Marlowe (Frankie); brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard Styles, Gail Hensley, Pat and Larry Vaughn, and Norman and Wanda Arrowood; special friends, Ned and Inez Roland; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. John Crowder officiating.
