John Bates

John Bates, age 30, of Marion, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at his residence with his loving family and friends by his side.  A native of McDowell County, North Carolina, born on September 07, 1986, he was the son of the late Rita McMahan and Ronnie Bates of Marion. 

A loving companion, father, son, brother and friend, John, in his spare time, enjoyed listening to a variety of music. 

In addition to his father, John is survived by his special friend, Gwen Thompson; one son, Braylan Bates; one daughter, Kenzley Bates; stepson, Dason Thompson; one sister, Angela Gilliland; one brother, Adam Bates; maternal grandmother, Shelly McMahan; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. 

A celebration of John’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 04, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Harvest Time Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Ward officiating.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
