John Calvin Ayers

John Calvin Ayers, age 54, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital in Asheville on Friday, March 12, 2021.

 

He was born in McDowell County on January 24, 1967 to Ruby Hensley Ayers and the late John Ayers.

 

John was a dedicated member of West Court Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He was truly a people person who knew everyone by name. John enjoyed muscle cars, model planes, and he was employed as a mechanic at Greene Motorsports. John will be remembered as a very generous person who was always looking for ways to help others. He also enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation and working in his gardens. A loving husband, step father, papa, and brother, he enjoyed spending time with his precious family, especially the grandchildren.

 

He is survived by, in addition to his mother, his wife, Jill Renee Ayers; four stepchildren, Larry Bodwell (Samantha), Brittany O’Brien, Brandon Bodwell, and Michael Bodwell; five grandchildren, Jonathon Spivey, Jacob Bodwell, A.J. O’Brien, Ian O’Brien, and Zoey O’Brien; and two siblings, Ricky Ayers (Lisa) and Robin Ayers; nephews, Justin Blankenship (Hannah), Brandon Ayers, Jonathan Jones and Rusty Jones.

 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at West Court Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jeff Burchette officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be directed to the West Court Baptist Church Missionary Fund, 355 West Court Street, Marion, North Carolina 28752.
