Joe Johnny Ledford

On Tuesday afternoon, May 04, 2021, Mr. Joe Ledford, 82, of Bakersville, North Carolina, peacefully departed this life at his residence with his family at his side.

A native of Mitchell County, Joe was born on September 14, 1938 to the late Earnest and Lennis Stafford Ledford.

Joe was the former owner of Ledford’s Wrecker Service & Garage. He enjoyed singing with a couple of his daughters and fishing with the other as well as doing automotive work with his sons. Joe had a love for ice cream.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary Pitman Ledford and a son, Gary Ledford.

He is survived by his seven children, Danny Ledford (Elizabeth), Debbie Weaver (Barry), Ronnie Ledford (Janet), Alan Ledford (Kathy), Diane Bowman (Quinton), Lisa Tipton (Jeff), and Joey Ledford (Sheila); a brother, Larry Ledford; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at First Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery in Spruce Pine at 1:00 p.m. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beam Funeral Service, 2170 Rutherford Road, Marion, North Carolina 28752.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Allen & Kathy, Justin & Holly, and Dalton & Miria for all they did in caring for Joe in his final days.
