Joe James Duncan

Joe James Duncan, age 80, of Marion, North Carolina, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, June 03, 2021.

A native of McDowell County, he was born on April 29, 1941 to the late Milton Burton Duncan and Vonnie Buchanan Duncan.

Joe worked in textiles for most of his life, and he enjoyed fishing. He was a faithful and loving husband, father, and grandfather. A man wholly dedicated to the Lord, Joe was a member of Yancey Street Baptist Church. His life exemplified how a Christian ought to live. He took great pride in his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were his world. Joe simply enjoyed life and was loved by all whose lives he touched.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Timothy “Tim” Duncan and four siblings, Phillip Duncan, Hillard Duncan, Lucille Vaughn, and Becky Hedrick.

Those left to cherish his precious memories include the light of his life for the past 59 years, Ruby Smith Duncan; two daughters, Tammy Willis (Ray) and Traci Silver (Jeff); six grandchildren, Brittany Willis, Amanda Waldroup (Chris), Paige Presnell (Gabe), Kelsey Underwood (Adam), Brianna Duncan, and Josh Willis (Katelin); eleven great grandchildren; three siblings, Dorothy Rumfelt, Carolyn Biddix (Tim), and Bill Duncan (Gail); and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 06, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Yancey Street Baptist Church with Pastor Dean Owenby and Reverend Ray Stockton officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Josh Willis, Chris Waldroup, Gabe Presnell, Adam Underwood, Adesh Kumar, and Colton Waldroup.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideon’s International.
