Jimmy Wilburne McElreath, born on June 8, 1944, in Buncombe County, North Carolina, passed away on January 4, 2025, at Mission Hospital McDowell. He was a cherished member of the community and will be remembered for his contributions as the owner and operator of J&R Woodworking, formerly known as Asheville Woodworking.Jimmy was a man of many passions. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and grilling out, often spending time with family and friends on joyful trips out on the pontoon. His spirit of adventure and love for the outdoors reflected his vibrant personality, and he was known as a loving husband, father, and papa.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Robin Davis McElreath, and his children: Lisa McElreath-Winkenwerder, Jimbo McElreath, Dawn McPeters Evans, and Brock McPeters. He was also a proud grandfather to Saige Ledford Crowder, Ridge McPeters, Haven Medford, Montana McPeters, and Chase Winkenwerder. He shared a close bond with his brothers, Raymond and Johnny McElreath.Jimmy is preceded in death by his brother, Steve McElreath, whose memory he held dear.A visitation in his honor will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Beam Funeral Service Chapel. Following the visitation, a funeral service will commence at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Dean Owenby officiating. Interment will follow the service at McDowell Memorial Park.
Jimmy McElreath’s humble nature and friendship has left a mark on all who knew him. His legacy will continue to inspire kindness and camaraderie among those he leaves behind.
