Jim "Bear" Barrier

Jim “Bear” Barrier, age 61, of Old Fort, passed away on Sunday, November 06, 2016 at the SECU Hospice House in Forest City.   A native and lifelong residence of McDowell County, North Carolina, born July 01, 1955, he was the son of Lovada Barrier of Old Fort and the late Ray Barrier.

Jim, who enjoyed taking a rock and turning it into silver jewelry, loved riding his motorcycle and fishing, but most of all, spending quality time with his family and friends.  In Jim’s words, “take it one day at a time”. 

He is preceded in death by, in addition to his father, one son, Shane Barrier; and one daughter, Randi Barrier.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sylvia Barrier; three sons, Trey Barrier (Tammy), Seth Barrier (Tammy); and Josh Barrier; one brother, C. W. Barrier (Sherry); and seven grandchildren, Jesse, Cole, Makayla, Madison, Aiden, Ellen and Emma.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Barrier home in Old Fort.
