Jesus Oliberto Gonzalez Duran

Jesus Oliberto Gonzalez Duran, age 15, of Nebo, North Carolina passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Memorial Campus in Asheville. Jesus was born on July 22, 2001 to Oliberto Gonzalez and Aurora Duran.

Jesus was a student at McDowell High School where he participated in the marching band and played alto sax and trumpet. He ran cross country and also had a 4.0 grade point average. He enjoyed hiking and being outdoors and would often climb a tree in his backyard just to watch sunsets. He loved his two dogs, Sarge and Sam. Jesus was very active in church functions, all who knew him loved him and he will be truly missed.

In addition to his parents, Jesus is survived by his paternal grandparents, Tomas Gonzalez and Nazaria Ortiz; maternal grandparents, Salvador Duran and Teresa Hernandez. Jesus is also survived by his two sisters, Yessica Alvarado (Andrew) and Kaylie Gonzalez; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service for Jesus will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church in Marion with Reverend Salathiel Urbina officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. two hours prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place after the service in the Gonzalez Cemetery.
