Jerry Dale Spillars, “J.D.”, age 70, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away at his residence on Sunday, August 19, 2018. Born in Brevard, North Carolina on April 17, 1948, he was the son of the late Willis and Annie Mae Hopson Spillars.
An avid “junk” and antique collector, J.D. enjoyed working on cars, and at one time owned and operated his own logging business and rock quarry. He loved to listen to the late Rev. Billy Graham and reading his Bible, but most of all, he loved spending time with his girls, Alana and Augusta. J.D. was a veteran of the Untied States Marine Corps and had served in Vietnam.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sidney and Bud Spillars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Odie Spillars; two children, Alanda Spillars and Jerry Spillars, Jr. (Dianne); four brothers, Richard Spillars (PJ), Larry Spillars, Butch Spillars and J.D. Tally; six grandchildren, Ashley Bradshaw (Josh), Arron McElreath (Jess), Jesse Spillars (Megan), Sam Mealhouse (Destiny), Gary Roland and Heather Roland; four great grandchildren, Augusta Bradshaw, Alana Bradshaw, Kayson Mealhouse and Brayden Spillars. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of J.D.’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Rev. Gary Webb officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
