Jerry Austin Lawing

Jerry Austin Lawing, age 78, of the Montford Cove Community passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at his residence.  A native of McDowell County, born July 29, 1939, he was the son of the late Fred and Carrie Morgan Lawing.

A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and brother, Jerry was a teacher of many traits and enjoyed working in his yard and vegetable garden.  Always putting his family first, he truly enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, camping and fishing, especially with his grandson, Alex. One of his favorite places to travel was Hazel Creek near Fontana Lake.  A faithful attendee of Nealsville Church of God, Jerry was a veteran of the United States Air Force. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 54 years and 10 months, Reba Duncan Lawing; one son, Allen Dale Lawing (Jennifer); one sister, Louise Franklin; and one brother, Herbert “Hub” Lawing (Vonell).  He is also survived by his grandson, Alex Dale Lawing, who he thought the world of; one “grand dog”, Gracie Mae; and a number of loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. 

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Nealsville Church of God with Bishop Travis Cooke, Rev. Douglas Carpenter and Rev. Jimmy Upton officiating.  Interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Air Force.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.
