Mr. Jerry Lee Hunter, age 70, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away suddenly following many years of declining health. Born on November 20, 1948 in McDowell County, North Carolina, he was the son of Gurthie Morgan Hunter of Marion and the late Roy Hunter.
A lifelong resident of Marion, Jerry attended Glenwood High School and Blanton’s Business College in Asheville. Since 1968, Jerry had worked for Hunter’s Livermush Company, except for the two years he served in the Marine Corp where he served from September 1969 until September 1971 and was deployed to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal.
Jerry was a member and had served in many positions at Cross Mill Church of God. He was also a member of the Mustang Club of America since 1972, Glenwood High School Alumni since 1971, and an active member of the McDowell County Republican party where he served in multiple positions culminating in his term as a member of the McDowell County Board of Commissioners from 1990 until 1998.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Hunter is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carolyn Worley Hunter; three daughters, Nicole Hunter Neubauer (D.J.), Elizabeth Hunter Brooks (Paul) and Rebecca Hunter Edwards (Gene); and three sisters, Carolyn Johnson, Louise Rumfelt (Ray) and Phyllis Brackett (Mike). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brittany Brooks, Kamie Hendley (Alex), Kerri Brooks, Kendell Brooks, Nicholas Neubauer, Kirstan Edwards and Audrey Neubauer; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service & Crematory in Marion.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Cross Mill Church of God with Rev. Kerney Wilson, Rev. Victor Worley and Rev. Jason Bright officiating. Entombment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
