Jeanette Freeman

June 21, 1928 — December 5, 2017

Jeanette Olivia McGinnis Freeman, age 89, of Old Fort, NC passed away peacefully to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her family.

 

Mrs. Freeman was born June 21, 1928 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Luther Hinkle McGinnis and Mary Walker McGinnis.   She was a member of Living Waters Tabernacle for over 72 years, where she was very active until she was unable in her later years.  She worked as a telephone operator in Washington D.C. She then married Sam and became a full-time homemaker.  After her children were grown she worked at Old Fort Finishing and then went on to become co-owner of Gemini Ceramics.  Mrs. Freeman had a great sense of humor and liked to have fun.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed writing poetry.  Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She spent her best days loving and playing with them, always looking forward to the next time they would be together.

 

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by eight brothers, Martin, Farlan, Melvin, James “Jim”, Alvin, Elmer, Frank, and Albert McGinnis and two sisters, Florence Field and Ada Thompson.

 

Left behind to cherish her memories are her husband of 72 years, Sam L. Freeman, Jr.; four children, Sam “Buddy” Freeman and wife, Toni of Old Fort, Loretta Burbage and husband, Tommy of Pawleys Island, SC, Phyllis Davis of Old Fort and Veronica Allison and husband, Jeff of Old Fort; six grandchildren, Michael Freeman and wife, Kimberly, Melissa Church and husband, Richard, Chad Davis and wife, Shelley, Mitch Davis and wife, Hayley, Brian Burbage and Jenna Allison; ten great-grandchildren, Avery, Carter, Andrew, Barrett, Colby, Natalie, Rylee, Aubrey, Brooklyn and Colson; and a host of wonderful nieces and nephews.  

 

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Living Waters Tabernacle.  A Celebration of Mrs. Freeman’s Life will follow at 3:00 PM at the church with Pastor Keith Jamison, Rev. Kenneth Massingill and Dr. Tommy Burbage officiating.
