Jean Whitson

Jean Whitson, age 84, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away at her home on the morning of Saturday, October 20, 2018 while surrounded by her family. The daughter of the late Brack and Maydth Stamey Buchanan, she was born in Bakersville, North Carolina on September 21, 1934. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brown Whitson; and one brother, Billy Buchanan. 

Young at heart, Jean had a beautiful spirit and loved her family, especially her great grandsons.  She enjoyed bowling and at one time, was a member of a bowling team and was a member of the McDowell County Republican Women’s Club.  Jean had served over 25 years on the McDowell County Board of Elections.  When she was able, she attended Hicks Chapel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her fiancé, Howard Clontz; one son, Donnie Whitson; one daughter, Revonda Hudgins; one granddaughter, Vallarie Whitson; two precious great grandsons, Preston and Wesley Moody; and special friend, Lynn Reynolds.  Jean is also survived by her canine companion, Tiki.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service in Marion with Pastor Matt McDaniel officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.

A committal service will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Cane Creek Cemetery in Bakersville.
