Janice Marie Miller

Janice Marie Miller, age 81, of Marion, North Carolina and formerly of Spruce Pine, passed away on the morning of Friday, July 13, 2018 while surrounded by her loved ones at Mountain Ridge Health & Rehab in Black Mountain.  The daughter of the late James and Ester Brown Jackson, Janice was born in McDowell County, North Carolina on March 26, 1937.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Miller, Jr. (2003); and one son, John Miller III (2008).

A wonderful, caring and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many, Janice was a member of Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Marion where she was involved with the Senior Choir and Usher Board.  She enjoyed spending quality time with her family at family gatherings and working with flowers, but most of all, she loved her grandkids. 

Left to cherish her memories are one son, Tony Miller and wife, Phyllis; one daughter, Gwen Conley and husband, Jeff; two sisters, Pearl Wilson and Shirley Turner; eight grandchildren, Jeffery Jr., Wayne, Tiara, Joseph, Andre, T.J., Ashleigh and John IV; ten great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Smith and Rev. Travis Wynkoop officiating.  Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church. 

The family wishes to extended a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mountain Ridge Health & Rehab for the extraordinary care that they provided the family and Janice during her time of illness.
