Janet Karen Wright

Janet Karen Shatley Wright, 68, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at her residence.

She was born June 05, 1952 in Ashe County to the late Guy and Ethel Coldiron Shatley.

Janet was a strong Christian woman, and she was a member of Faith Fellowship Church in Newdale. She was one of the first to graduate from Mars Hill University with a degree in Social Services. In addition to her career in social services, she also was a daycare manager, real estate appraiser, and a dental assistant. She truly loved people and working with them. Janet, who can be described as “little miss know it all,” also played the piano. She was a very bright and talented lady who had a passion for crafts. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter and will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Gerald Wright; son, Sterling Scott Pennington; one grandchild, Ezra Sterling Pennington; three siblings, Bonnie Shatley, Tammie Lazeau (Jon), and Terry Shatley (Rita); and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at a later date. The details will be announced once finalized.
