James Edward Williams, 96, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 01, 2022 at his home.
He was born in Old Fort on December 07, 1925 to the late James Melvin Williams and Bessie Lee Justice Williams.
Mr. Williams was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He entered the service when he was 19. He was in the Pacific Theater and fought during Iwo Jima. He was wounded on Okinawa and received the Purple Heart for his heroic service. Following this, he worked as a chief engineer on a tuna fishing vessel. In his later years, he enjoyed wood turning and spending time with his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Suttles Williams.
He is survived by his two children, James Aaron Williams (Janet) and Lugenia Gibson (David); his granddaughter, Shannon Lind (Bill); and one sister, Jean Ward.
Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
