James Everett Sumlin

James Everett Sumlin, 86, of Dysartsville, passed away on the afternoon of Monday, July 10, 2023.

James was born on August 08, 1936 to the late Rufus Edgar Sumlin and the late Julia Edna Washburn Sumlin. His son, Ricky Dean Buckner, also preceded him in death along with his good friends, Sherrill Dixon and Lawrence Fortune.

He was a proud US Army Sergeant who served in the Korean Conflict. James loved to pitch horseshoes and was known as a horseshoe champion. He loved to hunt, fish and go to the trade lot. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

James is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Frances Whisnant Sumlin; two children, Cathy Alexander and Jimmy Buckner (Kimberly); a sister Shirley Sorrells; six grandchildren, Erik Alexander, Stacy Ingram, Crystal Plemmons, Joshua Buckner, Ashley Huffman and Guy Huffman; twenty great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and his life long friend, James Crawley.

A funeral service for Mr. Sumlin will be held at Dysartsville Baptist Church on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 5:00 pm. Receiving of friends will take place one hour prior to the service from 4:00 until 5:00 at the church. Burial will take place at The Dysartsville Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
