James Douglas Smith, 80, of Marion passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

He was born in Mt. Kisco, New York on January 31, 1944 to the late Patrick and Mahala Douglas Smith.

Mr. Smith honorably served in the United States Air Force. He retired in 2005 after a career in construction. Jim adored his devoted wife, Sharon, of over 40 years. His whole family was special to him. He had a larger than life personality. Jim enjoyed music, and he was an avid fan of bands like The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was a history buff and had a passion for collecting antiques. Jim, who was never at a loss for words, had an amazing sense of humor that he could use to quickly put a smile on the faces of others. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Smith; and a brother, Ben Pattison.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Niimi Smith; son, Shawn (Megan) Smith of Upland, California and Michael Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Robert Smith and Kaylen Smith; a sister, Sandra Yacovelli; and nieces, Marianne Hoyle, Robin Bingham, Louise Killough, and Toni Carpenter along with many nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Old Fort.
