James Michael "Mike" Simmons

James Michael “Mike” Simmons, age 71, of Old Fort, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at the John F. Keever Solace Center. A native of McDowell County, Mike was born on March 19, 1950 to the late Paul and Helen Hensley Simmons.

He is preceded in death by one grandson, Cody Brogden.

Mike’s life enjoyment was to mow grass, play golf and eat with his many friends. He was always working on his home projects.

Mike is survived by two children, Courtney Simmons Averette (Travis) and Scott Michael Simmons (Amber); one sister, Doris S. Grant (Larry); seven grandchildren, Madison, Lennox, Lillian, Andrew, Bryson, Bradley, Sierra and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mike are a special niece, Alison G. Dowdy and family.

In keeping with Mike’s wishes, no services will be held at this time.
