James "Kelly" Burnette

James “Kelly” Burnette, 76, of Marion, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

He was born in McDowell County on May 5, 1947 to the late Lawrence Burnette and Frances Robinson Burnette. He was also preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Tommy Gibson and Eddie Epley.

Kelly was a loving and faithful husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. He loved spending time in the outdoors. Kelly was a Mason and a member of the Mystic Tie Lodge. He retired from the Department of Transportation following two decades of service, and he was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Miller Burnette; his daughter, Sarah Newton (Chris); two grandchildren, Christopher Newton and Gina Newton; and one sister, Pat Epley.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Doug Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
